FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC, November 11, 2024 — Washington, DC – SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change acknowledges the election results and understands the profound emotions of despair, fear, and uncertainty the outcome may have evoked for many fellow Americans. We encourage everyone to continue to take time to process these emotions, rest, and recharge. It is okay to feel the weight of these times, and it is also okay to find solace in community and shared hopes. SIECUS stands with you, offering our support and empathy as we collectively process this outcome.

In the face of anticipated challenges, SIECUS stands ready to push back against harmful rhetoric and policies that threaten the well-being of our youth, particularly the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups who may be deeply impacted by new federal initiatives, especially those found within Project 2025. We will work tirelessly to defend and protect all young people from policies that seek to undermine their rights and access to education.

Our mission remains resolute: advancing sex education for social change and supporting the health, dignity, and empowerment of all youth,” stated Christine Harley, president and CEO. “We will continue to be a strong voice for science-based, inclusive sex education, working tirelessly to bridge divides and find common ground in the interest of public health and youth empowerment.

We will continue to champion bipartisan efforts, as sex education is a non-partisan issue that saves lives and fosters healthy, informed communities. SIECUS remains committed to partnering with all levels of government to ensure that every young person, regardless of political climate, has access to comprehensive, accurate, and inclusive sex education.

In solidarity, we reaffirm our vision for a better tomorrow—one where all youth are empowered, safe, and have access to education that respects and celebrates their identities. As we move forward, SIECUS’s commitment to equity, dignity, and social change remains unwavering.
